cheers guys, i know my boy would love to rip it up on his own, but due to his cerebral palsy is unlikely to ever do so. when he is big enough we will be thrashing a tandem for sure!

the rider on the back wouldnt have his face in the pilots ass, look how close the second bars are to the the first guys seat, then look at the second guys seat position. the guy on the back would be pretty upright which would probably be a good thing in terms of being able to see which direction to lean next! the two frames are joined by more than just the seat tube, look between the two cranksets at the tube with additional bracing and at the bracing around the front of the rear frame and the back of the front.

the centre shock appears to serve no purpose in terms of suspension though. the chainline switches on all tandems, thats just how they work.
having had a go on the front and the back of a fox 40 equipped ellsworth witness (google it) i can say that tandem DH is awesome! technical stuff can be a bit difficult until you tune in to it and jumps are a little hairy, but for out and out speed you cant beat it. even gentle gradients can be absolutley ripped down and cornering is just sooo much fun, especially when the two wheel drifts start!

as for the comments about 'waste of 2 good bikes', 'thats stupid' etc, i take it you havent seen some of the other stuff thats come out of Santa Cruz's more 'unusual' bike creation moments? not sure which show it was at but they had a modded jackal with a softtail and a beer can holder built in to the frame, a v10 chopper, that crazy tandem with a single pivot that Mark Weir rides... do you never just get bored at work and fancy doing something for the sake of it?
